What is the Neuro-Linguistic Programme?

A close up of a fire

Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP, is the use of language to achieve the desired result. It was first introduced by Isabelle Couture in her book The Science of Getting You Where You Want to Be. NLP is often used in conjunction with other methods such as neuro-linguistic programming and cognitive behavioural therapy. NLP helps people achieve goals by using carefully selected language patterns and phrases to influence the way you think, feel and act. It also helps you develop your self-esteem, self-confidence and self-awareness

Neuro-linguistic Programme development and its Theory.

A person on a stage

NLP was first developed at the University of California in Los Angeles in the early 1970s. It is a highly successful method that has been used to help people overcome many of their problems, such as smoking, overeating, addiction to drugs and alcohol, and poor confidence. It was initially called Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It was later changed to NLP because Couture found out that Neuro-Linguistic Programming is also related to other fields such as neurology, neurophysiology and biophysical anatomy.

NLP operates on the theory that our brains are basically structured like a control board. In each region of the brain, there is a certain action required to produce the corresponding response. Each response is associated with a set of words or a group of images. As an example, when you speak, your lips move, your voice becomes higher and deeper. Your body language changes and you become more expressive. Each time you learn a new skill, your brain structures the neural circuits required to perform that skill in a different way.

NLP is very effective as it enables you to change how you react to a particular situation in a very natural way. This is achieved by changing the way your brain processes information. It is based on the idea that language is a learnt behaviour that can be taught. It is not the way you talk to others that is important, but how you actually say it. By understanding this principle, it is possible to change a person’s behaviour through the use of language.

Jon Kabat-Zinn and Programme Teaching

A close up of a hand

The neuro-linguistic programme was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, who is a world-trained cognitive psychologist and developmental psychologist. He believes that one of the reasons we have poor academic performance is that we have a limited ability to learn. We often ignore what we are taught in the classroom and go straight home with a textbook to read. His work focuses on how language and learning can be combined in order to help students to solve their problems in an exciting and positive way.

The Neuro-Linguistic Programme will teach you how to reprogramme the way your brain responds to language. You will learn how to organise your thoughts so that they make sense. Your thinking will become faster and your thought processes will become more efficient. It does not matter whether you are attending a language course or a non-linguistic course. This programme works for all because it teaches you how to understand how language works.

You will also learn how to translate thoughts into language effortlessly. When you listen to someone speak you will hear them in their own words. This helps you to understand the meaning of what they are saying. With this knowledge in mind, you will be able to translate what they are saying into your own language effortlessly. You will not have to struggle to understand what they are saying because you will already be fluent in your own head.

The Neuro-Linguistic Programme is very easy to follow and you will see results fast. People who have followed the programme have been able to communicate in full sentences within three months. You will not need to struggle to get your ideas across or to write them down. With the help of the programme, you can think and communicate like a professional.
