A short History of Neuro-Linguistic Programming

The Neuro-Linguistic Programming started in the early 1970s by John Grinder and Richard Bundler. John Grinder was a professor at the University of California and Bundler was a student. Grinder together with Bundler tried to find out why only certain people were successful in their respective field.

Therefore, they interviewed successful therapists. Consequently, the interviews helped them to know what common thought processes they had. However, interviewees didn’t give out their behavior process. It was only because of Grinder’s expertise in Linguistic they could decipher the common behavior pattern among those successful therapists.  Thus, Neuro-Linguistic Programming was started.

How Does Neuro-Linguistic Programming work?

The NLP starts with learning certain qualities of the successful person, which are:

  • The thinking process
  • The principles followed
  • Emotions felt
  • Actions practiced

An expert in NLP needs to first understand how the mind functions in a successful person. Once he does that, he can use the same techniques to help others. An NLP helps to discipline a person’s mind to think and feel like a successful person. It reprograms your subconscious mind to function in certain better ways. NLP has several benefits that can change the way you view your life.

Some results of NLP training are:

  • Balanced Mood
  • overcoming of anxiety and negative thoughts
  • increase in confidence
  • better skill development

Therefore, NLP has gained quite the popularity these days as they help change struggling people into successful people.
